In the wake of ousted leader Mohamed Morsy’s trial,
protests demanding Morsy’s reinstatement spring up around the country. The
former president is now standing trial for allegations of inciting violence
during December clashes. Currently, one of the most prominent concerns
regarding the trial is the legitimacy of the court. Concerns whether or not
Morsy will stand a fair trial reflect the political instability in Egypt. As Deputy
Prime Minister Ziad Bahaa el-Din stated “Egyptians are suffering,” and to “make
no mistake about this: Egyptians are suffering as a result of the policies that
were adopted particularly during the year of the reign of ex-President Morsy.”
Egypt is going through a lot of changes at this
point in time. Many of the changes are in anticipations of a more democratic
state. With the trail of Morsy commemorating, Egyptian civilians hope to put
times of extreme government oppression behind them. Having said this, as long
as Egyptian leaders keep their eyes fixed on commencement of brighter
democratic ideology, the political and economic state of Egypt should experience
recovery.
